Practice Hike to Blue Glacier

The Announcement

Hello friends and family!

Emily and I are planning on walking New Zealand’s Te Araroa trail from roughly November 2016 through mid-March 2017. We’re both very excited for this adventure. You may be surprised that we’ve been talking about doing this for quite a while now! We didn’t want to broadly announce it, though, until we were much more sure about things coming together.

This post also has some links to help you get a feel for what we’re looking to do. We’ll update it as we have additional information/insights.

Check out the official website: http://www.teararoa.org.nz/

There’s lots of great information about each section of the trail, plus they have links to videos and images. Be careful, though! You might find yourself reading and watching things for hours!

You can find a little more information at the unofficial wiki: http://tawiki.org/wiki/Main_Page
This is put together by people who have hiked before. If you think you spent time wandering around the official site, wait until you start reading their blogs.

The three blogs I’ve read in detail (and very much enjoyed) are:

That’s all for now. The concept is to blog regularly. Firstly, to keep friends and family updated. Secondly, we’ve been very grateful for the sacrifices previous hikers have made to make regular posts about life on the trail. We want to pay it forward by (hopefully) providing useful information from the 2016/2017 hiking season.
